How We Work

The Public Defender Society of Nepal (PDS-Nepal) is a Nepali nonprofit non-governmental organization that provides free legal aid to poor and marginalized people accused of criminal offenses. Our vision is to ensure that every person in Nepal has access to fair and effective justice, regardless of their economic or social status.

We work in two main ways:

- We provide direct legal representation to our clients through our team of trained and experienced lawyers, who advocate for their rights and interests in court and in detention facilities. We handle cases ranging from petty theft to murder, and we represent clients from diverse backgrounds, including women, children, ethnic minorities, refugees, and people with disabilities.
- We engage in strategic litigation, advocacy, and capacity-building to promote systemic change in the criminal justice system of Nepal. We work with government, civil society, and justice sector actors to raise awareness, reform laws and policies, and improve the quality and standards of legal aid services.

We believe that by defending the rights of the most vulnerable people in our society, we are also strengthening the rule of law, democracy, and human dignity in Nepal.
